As a student studying at the University of Surrey, there are many extra curricular activities on offer to you. The Students Union offer a huge variety of clubs and societies including 25 international and religious  societies and special interest groups run by the students for the students.  The campus plays host to a spectrum of social events including a thriving mix of music, theatre, art, film, dance, public lectures and special events taking place in its bars, cafés and dedicated performance spaces.

A number of international focussed events take place annually on campus including the well attended I-festival; a celebration of entertainment, culture and traditions from around the world.

The University also has plans for a new unique multi-faith centre which will offer 6 distinct spaces for world faith communities within a single building.

The University of Surrey offer a broad range of top quality campus facilities including a convenience store, launderette, various food and drink outlets, a bookshop, post-office, night-club, a weekly fruit and vegetable market all set within the picturesque Stag Hill campus.

Accommodation

The University of Surrey offers excellent accommodation facilities to its students with over 4600 rooms in 10 courts of residence including nearly 2500 en-suite rooms. All the Courts are self-catering and each group of rooms share a kitchen/dining room. Overseas students are guaranteed a place in accommodation for the normal duration of their programme if they apply by the published application deadline.  Limited single sex accommodation is also available.

Sports: The University’s brand new Surrey Sports Park s provides world-class sports, dance and exercise facilities. It was designed according to strict eco-friendly guidelines, and includes a 50m pool, multipurpose sports hall, 120-station gym, indoor climbing centre, grass and 3G artificial sports pitches, squash courts and a café bar for socialising.

Library: The University Library contains over 400,000 books, with computer laboratories open 24 hours per day, seven days per week. It is the home of SPLASH (the Student Personal Learning and Study Hub), an innovative centre that provides workshops, drop-in sessions, appointments and online resources to help students develop their learning, study and presentation skills.

The new Learning Centre extension (due to open in 2011) is a major initiative which will bring benefits such as a 30 percent increase in work spaces, significant increase in the number of PCs, additional wireless capacity for use of laptops and an enlarged informal learning café zone.

International students

The University of Surrey has a long history of welcoming international students from all around the world, and is part of a strong global partnership network of prestigious academic institutions. With nearly 140 different nationalities represented among its staff and students, Surrey prides itself on the quality of education and support it provides for international students.

The International Student Office helps support international students before, during and after their time at Surrey. Events and services offered by the International Student Office include assistance and counselling during the application process, visa and immigration advice, and an International Orientation programme before the start of semester to help new international students to settle in.  The International Student Office also arrange an Airport pick up service across four designated dates at Heathrow and Gatwick airports where the team meet and greet the newly arriving students, to help make the process as pleasant and easy as possible.
